The Pacuare Jungle Lodge, built to have minimum impact on its environs, sits in the renowned Costa Rican tropical rainforest along the Pacuare River. Conceived as a model of responsible tourism, where people can enjoy nature while respecting and protecting the environment, lanterns and candles provide light instead of electricity. The roofs of the lodge and bungalows are made from palm leaves installed by the local Cabecar Indians in accord with their traditions. A percentage of each reservation made by Internet is donated directly to the three primary schools located along the Pacuare River between Tres Equis and Siquirres.
The Pacuare Lodge's eco-friendly bungalows are nestled between the river and the Lodge's private nature reserve, which conserves 300 hectares (740 acres) of primary rainforest. The buildings are made of wood from tree farms and palm thatch collected in the rainforest by their Cabecar Indian neighbors. Each bungalow combines sustainable practices such as solar-heated water and low-impact septic systems with comforts such as orthopedic mattresses and spacious bathrooms. Maximum accommodation is 26 with double occupancy or 36 with triple occupancy.
The region is renowned for its class III/IV whitewater rafting. At the Pacuare Lodge, you can bird watch, hike, swim, fish, tour the canopy, visit a traditional indigenous community, or simply relax. Most guests to Pacuare visit as part of a 2- or 3-day river rafting package, but you can also reach the lodge by land.
Though the scenery and nature are spectacular, guests are equally impressed with Pacuare Lodge's attention to safety, service and comfort -- offering fine cuisine, an eclectic wine cellar, candlelight dinners, and massage services. Their commitment to conservation, improving life in nearby communities, and mitigating their environmental impact through recycling, organic ingredients and reforestation allows Pacuare Lodge to offer you a carbon-neutral vacation.
